Modell #14

Modell Design LLC's version of a Randall #14 Attack (what they think it should be).

This is Modell Design's take on a Randall #14.  The blade shape was inpsired by the Bagwell fighter bowies, adapted for the need to keep the length relatively short compared to that of a Bagwell fighting bowie. 

The weight is roughly 30% less than the Randall with very little given up in the way of blade thickness and the strength made up for by the use of expertly heat treated custom-quality D2 Tool Steel.  The hilt is AISI 304 Stainless Steel, the best material for bolsters and hilts.  It is thick but there is no need for the double thickness brass hilt of the Randall original so a bit of weight was saved there. 

The fit of the blade into the hilt is so expert there is no need for solder or plastic filler.  This is something Forge Master K. Ali prides himself on. 

The grip has 4 finger grooves spaced to fit a combat gloved hand.  It is more shaped to the natural curve of a hand, and extra length beyond the last finger has been removed so as to facilitate flipping, than the Randall.  The indent on the spine is gimped to facilitate a finger grip during removal and allow for the knife to be held blade up.

This knife was very favorably regarded by the head of our Study Group, which consists of instructors who train contractors, military and law enforcement personnel.  Its members are extremely well-qualified and includes those who actually use a knife for non-camping purposes.
